Stockholm Syndrome - June 26th, 2025

"Stockholm Syndrome" marks Fishbone’s first full-length studio album in nearly 20 years, after 2006’s "Still Stuck in Your Throat". What to Expect -Politically urgent anthems: Tracks like “Racist Piece of Shit” and “Last Call in America” tackle racism, inflation, and institutional corruption. Reinvigorated lineup: Founders Angelo and Dowd are back, joined by returning Spacey T Singleton and new members James Jones (bass), Hassan Hurd (drums), and JS Williams (trumpet/vocals).

Telling Visions Unlimited (TVU) played a pivotal role in the production and release of Fishbone’s long-anticipated comeback album, Stockholm Syndrome—their first full-length release since 2006. Led by producer and TVU partner Chris McGrew, alongside a dedicated team including John Montoya and Spence Murray, the project exemplified what best-practice album production looks like: guiding the creative process, managing studio logistics, maintaining artistic integrity, and ensuring the final product resonates both sonically and emotionally with fans. TVU not only provided technical and production expertise but also contributed to strategic planning, marketing coordination, and distribution support, making sure this iconic band’s return was met with the visibility and impact it deserves. Their involvement was not just operational—it was instrumental in bridging the gap between Fishbone’s legendary legacy and a new generation of listeners.

Insights from the Band

Chris Dowd (Founding Member)
In a May 2025 interview, Chris Dowd shared the creative journey behind the first single “Last Call in America” and the buildup to Stockholm Syndrome. He emphasized how the band continues addressing political and social issues—“price gouging and rising inflation… a warning call to humanity…”

In a June Q&A, Dowd reflected on rejoining the band and the album’s genesis. He clarified that his "hiatus" was a return after disagreeing with creative direction, and that making music again felt natural—“like riding a bike” . He spoke deeply on purpose, legacy, and being a voice for the voiceless—passing the flame from past collaborators who are no longer here .

Angelo Moore (Frontman)
In a June 12 interview, Angelo Moore described his role as a “woke” voice confronting societal issues and “what’s coming around the corner” in America

During an event at the Grammy Museum (May 27), moderated by W. Kamau Bell, Moore and Dowd discussed Stockholm Syndrome’s conception, noting its political edge and connection to current affairs

Dowd pointed to creative differences and lineup changes as major factors. He originally left in ‘94 due to divergent visions, but later rejoined once the timing and direction aligned again .

The album also reflects a desire to speak into present-day issues—economic instability, racism, political division—which inspired urgency and timing in production .

In Their Own Words
Chris Dowd on “Last Call in America”:
The song comes out swinging… ‘price gouging and rising inflation’… a warning call to humanity…”

Angelo Moore on his purpose:
I feel like it’s my duty as an artist… I can’t help but just talk about what the f*** is going on…”

"Fishbone’s Stockholm Syndrome is not just a belated album—it’s a response to our tumultuous times, crafted by band veterans returning with renewed purpose. After lineup shifts and creative pauses, they’ve returned with fierce energy, social commentary, and their signature genre-defying sound. And according to Angelo Moore and Chris Dowd, this is exactly the moment—and the moment was worth the wait."
